THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE (2005) ***1/2

The main thing I liked about this film was how remarkably close and faithful it was to the story in the book. Luckily, the book itself is fairly short, so not too much had to be left out of the film. It still managed to be a pretty long film, but it was completely engaging.

The battle scenes were more violent, however bloodless, than I would have expected from a Disney film, but I'm glad they stayed true to the story and didn't underplay anything.

The performances were fine, nothing extra special, but nothing dreadful either. It was the special effects, the Narnian creatures that were the most outstanding.

It's a great good-versus-evil film for everyone, young and old alike. It's a wonderful fantasy adventure with a nice message behind it, too (not to mention the Christian parallels and symbols … but you don't have to be Christian to enjoy this film, neither will you be offended).
