This Woody Allen film is very funny, but falls short when compared to some of his earlier gems like PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM, and ANNIE HALL. Unlike these two films, Woody Allen does not star in this one; Kenneth Branagh plays Allen's alter-ego.

Branagh plays Lee Simon, a journalist/novelist turned screenplay writer turned novelist who always seems to be making the wrong decisions and manages to mess one good thing up after another. Judy Davis, who also seems to be playing an Allen alter-ego, plays Simon's neurotic ex-wife.

The rest of the star-studded cast is superb, especially Leonardo Di Caprio, who plays a self-absorbed, spoiled, sex-crazed, young star. Bebe Neuwirth also shines in one of the funniest scenes involving a banana.

A must-see for Woody Allen fans.
