I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1998) *1/2

This is a fairly uninspired teen-slasher flick, not that many of these kinds of movies are inspired, but I expected more. Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is once again terrorized by a killer in a raincoat, only this time it’s on a secluded island in the Caribbean during a rain storm on the Fourth of July weekend. It boggles the mind that Julie, who is haunted by dreams of the killer stalking her, continuously runs away from the safety of her friends to be alone. If I thought I were being followed by a homicidal maniac the last thing I would want to be is alone.

The story is quite predictable, especially if you know any South American geography, and takes, only a little brain work to piece the puzzle together. There were some genuinely suspenseful scenes when you saw the figure in the background before the character knew what was going on, and there were some shocking appearances, but not jump-out-of-your-seat shocking, more oh-I-didn’t-think-it-was-going-to-happen-like-that shocking. I was also glad to see that the violence wasn’t too gory.
