Film-Buff Movie Reviews

THE MOD SQUAD (1999) **

This movie is about as unoriginal as you can get. The story has been told time and time again, the characters are pretty cliché, the script is just ordinary although I liked hearing those groovy 70s expressions, ya dig? Along with those expressions, I liked the original score. It stayed true to the nature of the 70s TV series, with wah-wah guitars and a funky bass line, but it was also a little more contemporary because it had an edge to it.

Three young convicts are given a second chance by helping the police. They have been put together to form a "Mod" squad. They are relatively harmless, but they have an attitude that doesn't go over well with the other officers. When one of the senior officers is found murdered, the Mod Squad take it upon themselves to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Giovanni Ribisi was one of the only positive things in the film. But after a while, even his character became tiresome. If it happens to be on TV some day (or night), watch it for the heck of it, but I wouldn't pay money to see it.
