THE RUTLES: ALL YOU NEED IS CASH (1978) ***

Brain-child of Monty Python alum, Eric Idle, this mockumentary follows the life of a rock and roll band from Liverpool … The Rutles. It’s a very funny parody about The Beatles. Not only are the musical numbers funny, especially to Beatle fans, but the film is laced with silly quips that are synonymous with the Monty Python sense of humour. It’s not nearly as funny as MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, or as clever and satirical as MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN, but well worth a watch. The dialogue and comments made by these pre-fab four are written very much as if they had been spoken by the Beatles themselves: tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Keep your eyes peeled for the then current Not-Ready-For-Primetime Players Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, and special appearances by Mick Jagger, Paul Simon and former Beatle himself, George Harrison.
